Join us for our Bradgate Family Bushcraft workshop, in our outdoor woodland classroom for this exciting three hour workshop, designed for children and adults, and we encourage families to attend together.

We will teach you bushcraft skills such as safe cutting tool use and fire lighting techniques. Our goal is to ensure that everyone leaves with a good level of understanding, through explanation, demonstration, and participation.

During the course, we will cover various topics, including safe knife use, making feather sticks, using fire steels, friction fire using the bow drill, and building a fire.

You will have the chance to learn how to handle and use a fixed blade bushcraft knife safely and effectively to make fine curls of wood for fire lighting, using both modern and ancient skills. Our aim is for the whole group to prepare and build a fire, and then boil enough water to provide everyone with a woodland brew (hot chocolate, tea, or coffee) at the end of the session.

We recommend that you bring suitable outdoor clothing for warmth, waterproof clothing for wet days, a water bottle, snacks, and a mug. Sturdy footwear suitable for off-path woodland area is also necessary.

Each ticket covers the cost of one child (aged 10+) and one adult guardian. Should you have two children and one adult only, please contact the Estate Office on 0116 236 2713 and we will do our best to accommodate you.
