The Shock of the Old - telling the story of Britain’s first Ice Age Art

In 2015-16 rare evidence for Ice Age hunters was excavated at Bradgate Park overlooking the Little Matlock Gorge. We can interpret their activities from the flint tools they left behind. A State Occasion (Two talks, 11:30am & 1.00pm)

On this very date in the year, 1547, Elizabeth renowned as Bess of Hardwick married Sir William Cavendish in the Bradgate Chapel. Sir William was the royal treasurer to the King. Myth has it that the Wedding took place at 2am. This may be due to the stars being correctly aligned or alternatively just that the groom was running late! To mark this grand occasion, Bess will be honouring Bradgate Chapel with a visit once more, from her ancestral home at Hardwick Hall. Read more
