Bradgate Park Venison

Bradgate Park is the only remaining Medieval deer park in Leicestershire. The pasture here does not receive any artificial fertiliser and the deer are not handled or treated with any veterinary drugs. Bradgate Park deer are essentially wild animals that live in an enclosed, safe area.

Bradgate Deer in the Wilderness of the Park

In order to maintain the long term health and wellbeing of the deer herd it is necessary to carry out a yearly cull. Having no predators to control numbers, the deer if left unchecked would outstrip the food source of the walled Park. This would lead to malnutrition, starvation and eventually death.

The Estate does not offer commercial deerstalking and all culling is carried out by our own qualified and experienced staff, who are best able to identify animals to cull. The team are trained for all aspects of preparation, which takes place on site, before meat is packed and frozen, meeting the highest quality standards of animal welfare and food hygiene.

As well as being a delicious and versatile meat, venison is low in fat and therefore one of the healthiest of meats to eat. When you buy Bradgate Park venison, you can be sure you are purchasing meat that has been produced from animals that have enjoyed free range extensive grazing on grass .
