Join our knowledgeable volunteers on this excellent summer evening walk:

Embark on a captivating journey through time as our expert volunteers guide you through the remarkable history of three pivotal wars that shaped our world:

  • The English Civil War: Discover the Grey family's significant role in this tumultuous conflict and how their legacy intertwines with the history of Bradgate Park.

  • World War I: Learn about the brave Leicestershire Yeomanry and their heroic efforts during the Battle of Frezenberg in 1915. Despite devastating losses, these courageous soldiers fought valiantly. Don’t miss the story behind the annual Commemorative Service held at the War Memorial in their honour.

  • World War II: Explore Bradgate Park's vital contributions to the war effort. From the loopholes in the boundary wall of the Ruins enclosure to the foxholes used for military training, discover how the park and the people of Leicester played their part in defending the nation.

There's so much more to uncover! Join us on this immersive summer evening walk and hear firsthand from our knowledgeable volunteers as they bring these historical moments to life.

This moderate walk will cover approximately 4 miles and hundreds of years of history, exploring an often overlooked but fascinating area of Bradgate Park's history. 


Price:

£10.00 per person. Please note: parking charges apply. 


When: 

5.30pm- 8.15pm, Wednesday 17th June 2026

The walk is approx. 3 hours long.


Meeting point:

Please meet at Hunt's Hill Car Park at 5.15pm Our volunteers will meet you by the pay and display machine. 

Please note: This walk will end at the Deer Barns Visitor Centre and Café, you will then need to find your own way back to Hunts Hill car park.


Suitability:

This moderate walk is suitable for children aged 14+. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on la ead at all times. 


Accessibility:

This is a walk of approximately 4 miles, and will include uneven terrain and grass tracks. Sessions will go ahead unless extreme weather is forecast. Please contact the Estate Office on 0116 236 2713 if you have any queries relating to accessibility.


Parking:

Please park at Hunt's Hill car park. Parking is not included in your ticket. Please click here for parking tariffs.


Please note:

  • This is an outdoor walk which will go ahead in all weather conditions, except in the case of extreme weather that threatens the safety of our staff and visitors.
  • We are unable to make refunds for this event, except in the circumstance of the event being cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. 
  • Please note: This walk will end at the Deer Barns Visitor Centre and Café. You will then need to find your own way back to Hunts Hill car park
