Create a truly unique piece of rustic furniture - using oak from the Bradgate estate! Join an expert guide and learn the process of creating a stool, set in the tranquillity of Bradgate Park's Woodland Workshop.

This two-day course will teach you how to use traditional carpentry hand tools and techniques to create a beautiful stool, carved from oak sourced from the Bradgate Estate. Your expert guide, green woodworker Ian Varley, will guide you carefully through each stage of the process, enabling you to create your very own hand-crafted piece of bespoke quality hardwood furniture.

Set in the tranquil woodland at Hunt's Hill, this is the perfect chance to slow down and connect with nature over the weekend.

This is a 2 day course, taking place on the following days: 

  • Saturday 3 June: 9am-4pm
  • Sunday 4 June9am-4pm

What to bring? 

This event will take place in our Woodland Workshop, close to the Hunt's Hill (Old John) car park. Please ensure you wear sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing, as this session will take place outdoors.

Lunch will not be provided, so please bring a packed lunch with you. 


Meeting point 

The session will take place in our Woodland Workshop space, accessible from the Hunt's Hill car park. Please meet Ian by the pay machine at the Hunt's Hill car park.


Suitability

This walk is suitable for adults aged 18+. 

This is a physical course and a general level of fitness and hand strength is required. No prior carpentry experience is required - just the enthusiasm to learn and create!


Accessibility

The session will take place in a woodland, and the terrain is uneven. Sessions will go ahead unless extreme weather is forecast. Please contact the Estate Office on 0116 236 2713 if you have any queries relating to accessibility.

Please park at Hunt's Hill car park.

  • This is an outdoor session which will go ahead in all weather conditions, except in the case of extreme weather that threatens the safety of our staff and visitors.
  • Ian will be instructing you how to stay safe, but your safety and the safety of your dependents is your responsibility at all times throughout the duration of the session.
  • We are unable to make refunds for this session, except in the circumstance of the session being cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
