Try your hand at the traditional woodland craft of spoon carving, set in the tranquillity of Bradgate Park's Woodland Workshop. 

Over this two day course, you will spend time learning how to use basic tools - including knives, axes and saws - to create your very own spoon. Led by Graeme Turner of GrizzleyPaw Designyou will be guided through the processes of turning timber to treen.

Set in the tranquil woodland at Hunt's Hill, this is the perfect chance to slow down and connect with nature over the weekend.

Course outline: 

  • Day 1: Use of the knife, axe and saw to create a spatula. 
  • Day 2: Progress from the skills learnt on day 1 and use the crook knife to create your own spoon.

Adult: £60 for the full course.

  • Saturday 22 April: 9am-3pm
  • Sunday 23 April: 9am-3pm

What to bring? 

This event will take place in our Woodland Workshop, close to the Hunt's Hill (Old John) car park. Please ensure you wear sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing, as this session will take place outdoors.

Lunch will not be provided, so please bring a packed lunch with you. 

Tea and coffee will be provided.


Meeting point 

The session will take place in our Woodland Workshop space, accessible from the Hunt's Hill car park. Please meet Graeme by the pay machine at the Hunt's Hill car park.


Suitability

This walk is suitable for adults and young people aged 16+. The event is suitable for all abilities.


Accessibility

The session will take place in a woodland, and the terrain is uneven. Sessions will go ahead unless extreme weather is forecast. Please contact the Estate Office on 0116 236 2713 if you have any queries relating to accessibility.

  • This is an outdoor session which will go ahead in all weather conditions, except in the case of extreme weather that threatens the safety of our staff and visitors.
  • Graeme will be instructing you how to stay safe while carving the staff, but your safety and the safety of your dependents is your responsibility at all times throughout the duration of the session.
  • We are unable to make refunds for this session, except in the circumstance of the session being cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.
