A Jubilee Street Party at Bradgate Park On 2nd June, a we’ll be kicking off the long bank holiday weekend in style! Featuring the unveiling of a brand new piece of public art, live music, a BBQ and, in the evening, the lighting of the Old John beacon, join us for a celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as part of our Arts Council funded project, “The Park. The Past. The Platinum.” What's going on? Things to see and do during the day: In the ruins, we'll be helping you to create crowns and flags - all the appropriate regalia for a Platinum Jubilee! Along the carriageway, look out for our Young Rangers, who'll be helping you to build your very own Bug-ingham Palace. Borrow some colourful chalk and help us decorate the carriageway with beautiful art. Get your face painted! At 1pm, we'll be launching our new public artwork at the Deer Barns, created in collaboration with our visitors and looking back at the last 70 years of visiting and making memories at Bradgate Park. Get involved in sharing your memories! Bring along your photos of Bradgate in years gone by and contribute to our photo wall. Music and performances: Enderby Brass Band will be treating us to live music on the Deer Meadow. Look out for Bakanalia Border Morris, who will be performing during the afternoon. Food and drink: We'll be firing up the barbeque! Vegetarian options available. Our newly refurbished café will be serving hot and cold food and refreshments all day, including ice creams. As always, there will also be plenty of space to picnic. And in the evening... Stick around after the celebrations, as once the sun has set, Old John will be illuminated as a beacon - one of over 2,000 beacons lighting up the country in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The perfect opportunity to bring along a picnic and enjoy the summer evening! Entry is FREE but parking charges apply.
