Dogs at Bradgate Park
The Public Space Protection Order in respect of dogs on the Bradgate Park Estate was confirmed by Charnwood Borough Council on 20th February 2017. The Order has four aspects:
- Dog Fouling – if your dog fouls anywhere on the Bradgate Park Estate (defined as Bradgate Park, Swithland Wood plus associated car parks, woodlands and agricultural land) it is an offence not to remove the faeces from the site or place it in an appropriate litter bin. This also applies to dog foul that is contained within a plastic bag.
- Dogs on Leads by Order – if an authorised member of Bradgate Park Trust staff directs you to put your dog on a lead anywhere on the Estate, it is an offence not to comply.
- Leads Required Seasonal Zone – in the area coloured yellow on the maps attached to the Order and displayed on site, it is an offence for a dog not to be on a lead between the hours of 9am and 10pm from 1st April to 31st October.
- Exclusion – it is an offence for a dog to be in any of the areas shown on the maps as “Exclusion Zones” (including the Deer Sanctuary, most of the woodlands on the Park and the agricultural land on the Estate other than on public rights of way)
Any of the above offences are punishable by the issue of a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice (discounted to £50 if paid within 10 days).
The above is just a summary. The full text of the Public Space Protection Order, together with the map, can be viewed or downloaded here
Following a number of recent incidents of dogs chasing deer, we are asking members of the public to help us safeguard the deer’s welfare by keeping dogs on leads in the “Yellow Zone” before the PSPO comes into effect.
