Vehicular access for disabled or infirm visitors
text

Vehicles are not normally permitted to drive into Bradgate Park.  A special facility is made available for those people who are unable to visit Bradgate Park on foot.

Bradgate Park Trust issues Special Permits which enable holders to drive or be driven along the main carriageway through Bradgate Park, during the main visitor season.

The Scheme operates between April - October (inclusive):

  • Thursday afternoons and early evenings - 2.30pm - 7.00pm (last admission 6.30pm or half an hour before dusk if earlier). In inclement weather the gates will be closed on Thursdays at any time after 5.00pm (4.00pm in October)
    s
  • Sunday mornings - 9.00am - 11.45am (last admission 11.00am)

Please Note Due to the large number of visitors on Sundays and in order to minimise the risk of collisions between cars and pedestrians, with effect from July 2013 the weekend day for this Scheme will change from Sundays to SATURDAYS. The last Sunday access will be on Sunday 30th June and the first Saturday will be Saturday 6th July. No change in arrangements for Thursdays.

Only Cars, Mini-coaches or Ambulances for the Disabled are permitted access. Such vehicles must display a special Bradgate Park Trust Permit. Also, solely on a temporary basis until a Bradgate Permit is obtained, access will be allowed for a vehicle displaying a Blue Badge.

Vehicles must enter and leave the Park by the Newtown Linford entrance.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR A PERMIT?

Special Bradgate Park Trust permits are only issued to registered Blue Badge holders or if application is supported with a medical certificate.

Eligible persons should write to Land Agent & Surveyor of Bradgate Park Trust at Estate Office quoting serial number, expiry date and issuing authority of Blue Badge.

Alternatively is you are not a Blue Badge holder, written application should be supported by a Medical Certificate from Doctor confirming medical circumstances and stating that it would be appropriate, because of a disability or infirmness, for a special permit to be issued.

Telephone Enquiries : Leicester (0116) 234 1850 and ask for Lynda Taylor.

Permits are renewable annually.  Permit holders are written to in the spring and invited to re-new the Permit for the new visitor season.

There is no formal charge for the issue of the Bradgate Park Trust Permit. However, the Trust is a Registered Charity and expects all participants to make an annual donation in appreciation of the facilities provided.  Such donations are put towards the costs of running the Scheme and having a member of staff specially on duty at the Newtown Linford entrance.
