SPECIAL GUIDED TOURS FOR GROUPS OF ALL AGES
Guided tours, led by a member of the Bradgate Country Park Staff, are a marvellous way to both enjoy and gain a greater appreciation of Bradgate Country Park and the countryside.
Tours (must be pre-booked) can be arranged for any school, club or group and be tailored for all ages. Maximum of 30 people per Group (no minimum number). For larger parties more than one tour can be provided.
The topics the Guided Tours can cover include:-
Ruins of Bradgate House
A Tour around the Ruins explaining The History of Bradgate House, the Grey family who built it and who owned the Park for many centuries, and the story of Lady Jane Grey (the nine days Queen of England) who was born at Bradgate and spent much of her short life there.
History of Bradgate Park
A Tour through part of the Park explaining many of the interesting aspects of its history and features.
Natural History of Bradgate Park
A Tour through part of the Park looking at its very rich and varied flora and fauna and the natural history of the area. The tour can include the Red and Fallow Deer Herds, the Park’s ancient oaks, the River Lin, the fascinating geology and lots more.
River Lin
A Walk alongside the River from the Newtown Linford entrance, downstream towards the Ruins. Learn about this varied stretch of water with it’s waterfalls and pools - a habitat which is the home of brown trout and crayfish.
Bradgate Park
A combined Tour touching on the history and natural history of the Park (including, if desired, a brief look at the Ruins of Bradgate House) - the ideal introduction to Bradgate Park.
Swithland Wood
A Tour through an area of ancient woodland which is one of the best remaining examples of oak, lime and alder forest in Leicestershire. An area rich in flora and fauna and containing the famous former Swithland Wood Slate Quarries.
Bradgate Park Visitor Centre (in centre of Park)
A Guided Tour around the fascinating displays on Lady Jane Grey, the Grey Family, Bradgate House, Old John Tower, Swithland Wood, the Deer of Bradgate, the geology of the area and much more besides.
Tours usually take about one hour. If a longer Tour is required, this can be provided subject to an additional charge.
Tours are usually available, at any reasonable time, all year round (excluding Weekends and Bank Holiday periods).
