Your Historic Gateway to Charnwood Forest
Situated on the edge of historic Charnwood and within the National Forest, Bradgate Park & Swithland Wood Country Park is open to visitors on every day of the year – from 7.45am until dusk. Parking in five different car parks situated at key locations around the boundary of the Estate. The main entrance is in the village of Newtown Linford (by the church). Walk into the Park along the tarmac carriageway, through the wooded “Little Matlock” gorge, alongside the River Lin, past the Ruins of Bradgate House and along to the Deer Barn Tea Room. Follow the extensive network of paths to get off the beaten track and explore.

BRADGATE PARK is Leicestershires largest Country Park and most popular visitor attraction, extending to some 830 acres and welcoming 900,000 visitors every year. Steeped in History, the Park was the birthplace and early home of Lady Jane Grey - 9 days Queen of England. This historic deer park is still grazed by herds of Red and Fallow Deer that roam freely within the boundary walls.
SWITHLAND WOOD is an attractive and atmospheric area of Ancient Woodland, covering 146 acres and a remnant of the original Charnwood Forest Oak Woods.
The Bradgate Park and Swithland Wood Country Park Estate is managed by the Bradgate Park Trust, a Registered Charity. The Trust has two charitable objects, which are:
1. The provision of a public park and recreation ground, and the maintenance and improvement thereof, for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Country of Leicestershire and of visitors thereto, with the objects of improving the conditions of life for such persons and
2. To advance the education of the public in the appreciation and care of the environment
